Small Animal Experimental Facility

The small-animal experimental facility at the Institute of Advanced Virology (IAV) was established in 2024 to conduct virological experiments. This facility is registered with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D), Government of India, under registration number 2298/GO/Rbi/S/2024/CCSEA, and is approved to breed and conduct experiments on small laboratory animals. The current facility houses only mice for breeding and experimentation.

The facility comprises a quarantine room, a breeding room, and an experimental room, and is equipped with individually ventilated cage (IVC) systems and a cage-changing station. Additionally, there is a procedure room housing a BSL-2 laboratory for experiments. The facility also has a clearing room equipped with the necessary equipment. All experiments and procedures are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), New Delhi, and under the supervision of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC). The animal BSL-3 (ABSL-3) is in the process of establishment.
