Molecular Diagnostic Services
The Virus Diagnostics Division of IAV offers diagnostic services to detect a wide spectrum of viral diseases, both acute and chronic. We offer targeted tests, followed by broader diagnostic algorithms based on a syndromic approach, as and when required. To support this, we have implemented more than 60 viral parameters. Our facility will identify viral illnesses of regional and global significance (e.g., vector-borne disease viruses; viruses transmitted by the respiratory route, intestinal route, or body fluids; acute encephalitis syndrome-causing viruses; zoonotic disease viruses; and viruses of travel and tourism significance). The results are routinely communicated to treating clinicians under instruction from state and district health officials. The division will collaborate closely with the health department of the state to deliver early treatment through timely diagnosis, early detection of outbreaks, and the implementation of effective control measures. We aim to help strengthen the public health system and pandemic preparedness of the state through effective surveillance and detection of emerging and re-emerging viruses. Our facility is also equipped to conduct a variety of scientific activities, including virus outbreak investigations, molecular epidemiology research, the development of diagnostic kits, advanced virus diagnostic training, and medical virology research in collaboration with clinical departments of medical colleges and other research centers.
