Virus Genomics, Bioinformatics & Statistics

Advances in computational technology have significant impact on modern research. New generation approaches in genomics, proteomics and metabolomics are key to understanding dynamics of virus infections at a molecular level. By integrating multi-omics data with machine-learning algorithms, the department aims to reveal the mechanisms of viral pathogenesis and identify novel therapeutic targets, thereby accelerating drug development. This department will work at the interface of technology and virus biology to support the activities of other departments. It will have a key role in molecular epidemiology and employing systems biology and computational approaches in diagnostics, drug and vaccine design. The department will also play a role in ensuring the use of right statistical approaches in experimental studies, epidemiological investigations and clinical trials.
